House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., led the charge Wednesday to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt of Congress for not handing over documents related to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe — declaring the move
necessary as the country enters a “constitutional crisis.”


This unprecedented step had only been taken by Congress once – when Eric Holder and Obama refused to turn over information on Fast and Furious. Nadler took a very different stance on contempt back then, when House Republicans took the same step against then-AG Eric Holder by opposing the contempt charge.

During a farewell ceremony for his Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Barr poked fun at House Democrats by joking about a contempt of Congress vote on Thursday. “You like records,” Barr said at the Justice Department event, referring to Rosenstein. “This must be a record for an attorney general being proposed for contempt within a hundred days of taking office.”
