NADLER HOLDS BACK BARR’S CONTEMPT CHARGE OVER NEW MOVE BY DOJ.

William Barr and Jerry Nadler

REUTERS - Congressional Democrats and President Donald Trump’s administration struck a rare compromise on Monday as the Justice Department agreed to provide evidence from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia inquiry to lawmakers weighing whether to begin impeachment proceedings against the president.

As a result of this decision House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, on Monday said he would hold off on contempt charges for Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn.
“Given our conversations with the Department, I will hold the criminal contempt process in abeyance for now.” - Nadler said.
Nadler’s committee had subpoenaed Barr to hand over the unredacted version of Mueller’s report on Russian election meddling, They also asked for the underlying evidence that was used as the basis for Mueller’s report. The Justice Department had refused to hand over the unredacted version of the  Mueller’s report into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia or the underlying documents and as such, Nadler’s committee voted to hold Barr in contempt.
FROM CNBC - Nadler’s statement: “Given our conversations with the Department, I will hold the criminal contempt process in abeyance for now. We have agreed to allow the Department time to demonstrate compliance with this agreement. If the Department proceeds in good faith and we are able to obtain everything that we need, then there will be no need to take further steps. If important information is held back, then we will have no choice but to enforce our subpoena in court and consider other remedies. It is critical that Congress is able to obtain the information we need to do our jobs, ensuring no one is above the law and bringing the American public the transparency they deserve.”
